PE 100RC polyethylene pipes can be manufactured in accordance with PAS 1075 certification requirements.

Tests carried out under this certification confirm the pipes’ resistance to scratches and point loads that may occur during the construction of networks in native soil without bedding and backfill, as well as for the construction and renovation of networks using traditional and trenchless methods. Both pipes manufactured in accordance with PAS 1075 requirements and the raw materials used are subject to continuous testing by the accredited laboratory of the certification body. This ensures the highest quality of the manufactured products.

The results of tests on TWINGAM PE 100RC pipes carried out at Hessel Ingenieurtechnik GmbH for compliance with PAS 1075 and at INiG Kraków for compliance with the applicable product standards confirm their exceptional resistance to the effects of scratches.

PE 100RC pipes are also significantly more resistant than PE 100 to crack propagation.

Characteristics

Characteristics

Resistance to cracks and scratches

Compliance with PAS 1075 ensures pipe durability in demanding conditions.

Suitable for trenchless installation

Fast installation without bedding and extensive excavation.

Lower investment costs

Shorter project time and reduced earthworks costs.

Advantages of PE100RC TWINGAM pipes:

significantly higher resistance to point loads, scratches and notches, and therefore high resistance to crack propagation,

suitable for trenchless technologies without the risk of pipe damage, delivering significant investment savings compared to traditional open-cut methods,

improved work safety and greater structural durability,

reduced environmental impact,

lower costs by eliminating part of the work, such as excavation, backfilling, soil replacement or compaction,

shorter installation and execution time,

minimum excavation area,

minimal interference with infrastructure,

possibility of using existing pipeline routes,

Structure and types of PE100RC TWINGAM pipes

TWINGAM polyethylene pipe can be manufactured as a single-layer pipe with the wall made entirely of PE100RC material, so-called TYPE 1, or alternatively as a two-layer pipe in which the material layers are molecularly bonded - TYPE 2. “TWINGAM” pipes are made of PE100RC class material with enhanced strength parameters. PE100RC is a material with high resistance to crack propagation and point loads. The raw material and the finished product (pipe) are subjected to specialist tests in accordance with the requirements of:

PAS 1075

  • Point Load Test (PLT) by Dr Hessel,
  • FNCT (Full Notch Creep Test) / ACT,
  • Resistance to slow crack growth – notch test

product standards
PN-EN 1555-2, PN-EN 12201-2

  • Resistance to slow crack growth SHT – Strain Hardening Test,
  • Resistance to slow crack growth ANPT – Accelerated Notched Pipe Test,
  • Resistance to slow crack growth CRB – Cracked Round Bar Test.

Situations causing crack propagation in polyethylene pipes

1. Scratches or cuts on the outer pipe surface occurring before installation (improper storage, transport) or during installation. According to the general rule, a pipe with damage to the outer layer deeper than 10% should not be installed for safety reasons.

2. “Point loads” – direct contact between the outer pipe surface and a hard (sharp) object (e.g. a stone), which causes additional stress in the pipe wall. Over time, on the opposite side of the pipe wall, a crack is initiated as a result of the simultaneous action of internal pressure, external pressure and the stress caused by the object pressing against the pipe. This crack then propagates over time. PE100RC “TWINGAM” pipes are more resistant to crack propagation than standard PE100 pipes.

Methods of joining TWINGAM pipes

  • butt welding,
  • electrofusion welding,
  • mechanical joints using compression fittings and flange fittings intended for polyethylene pipes (excluding gas networks).

Approvals and certificates

  1. Certificates of conformity with PAS 1075 requirements issued by DIN CERTCO based on test results from Hessel Ingenieurtechnik GmbH, depending on the intended use, scope and diameters.
  2. National Technical Assessment issued by the Building Research Institute.
  3. Opinion of the Central Mining Institute in Katowice permitting the use of the pipes in mining damage areas.
  4. PZH certificate approving TWINGAM pipes for the transport of water intended for human consumption.
  5. National Technical Assessment issued by the Road and Bridge Research Institute permitting the use of TWINGAM pipes in transport infrastructure construction.
